We have already discussed the grain orientation to give strength to the stem but choice of timber is also relevant if the goblet is intended to be used. The turned wooden goblets are all turned by hand from a single piece of wood. It consists of 9 pieces of wood which are 1/2 x 1/2 x 9. We use solid domestic hardwoods to ensure there are no glue joints that may leak.
